Name: Kiyoko Yamashira
Race: Japanese
Age: 15
Occupation: Dusk Wing Academy Student
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 128 lbs.
Personality: Kiyoko is extremely quiet and shy, this being one of the first things people notice about her when meeting the Man in Disguise . She could easily be described as meek, and her timid, wallflower personality earned her the nickname, “Mouse” back in her middle school. Still, the fact is, most people don’t even notice her at all, and she likes it that way. Kiyoko absolutely detests being the focus of attention, and would much prefer to remain in the background blending in to the people around her like a chameleon. Although she is usually very timid, one thing that will get Kiyoko extremely riled up is anyone threatening or trying to steal cards from her deck. Kiyoko’s deck is her most prized possession, and she considers every monster in it a friend who is held close to her heart. Therefore, in the event someone would actually try to steal them, Kiyoko would blow up in a dramatic reversal of her usual behavior.
Alignment: good
Appearance:
Biography: Born to a moderately wealthy family, Kiyoko’s upbringing would seem pretty ideal to the eyes of the outside observer. Her family was a classic example of the old and familiar tale of a family that looks perfect to someone viewing it from outside, but quickly has that façade fall apart when a closer inspection is made. Kiyoko was unfortunate in that she was born into a house being torn apart by a failing marriage. Kiyoko’s father, the owner of an architecture firm in Paradox City, would cheat on his wife on a fairly consistent basis, often with prostitutes, or anyone else who struck his fancy.
Kiyoko’s mother looked past her husbands philandering for a number of reasons, partially because she felt guilty over her own common vice, Drug Abuse, which she used to self-treat her Clinical Depression. In addition, she also did it for the sake of their children, Kiyoko and her younger brother, Kai. Eventually though, things inevitably boiled over after Kiyoko’s mother attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. She survived, but was hospitalized for months and during this time, became adamant that she had simply had enough of her husband’s ways, and that she wanted a divorce. Kiyoko was only nine at the time. Seeing her parents break up was extremely hard for young Kiyoko, who couldn’t help but wonder if she was somehow to blame for what had happened, if perhaps her mother might not have tried to kill herself if Kiyoko had paid more attention to her.
Eventually, slowly, Kiyoko accepted the reality of it, but it forever changed her, and she was never as vibrant as she had been before the divorce of her parents again. Even then, in school, Kiyoko was the textbook definition of a wallflower. She suffered from a severe case of Stage Fright, in that she detested being put in the spotlight, and so usually never spoke up, and only spoke when spoken to. Speaking in a very quiet voice, other children often mocked her that she was like a mouse, scurrying around and running from anything that moved. Truthfully, Kiyoko had always been socially awkward, and never got along well with other children her age. Still, she did have a small group of friends, mostly other outcasts like herself, who would often hang out together at lunch and duel to pass the time.
Kiyoko had actually gotten into dueling very early in life, her mother giving her a card for her third birthday that she felt suited her daughter. The card was Archfiend Empress. Kiyoko identified with Fiends of all types of monsters because she, perhaps naively so, believed that they were misunderstood and feared like she was, but deep down, still truly good at heart.
Collecting a very impressive deck of Fiend-Type monsters over the years, with a particular focus placed on the Archfiends, who became the center of her Deck, Kiyoko was actually quite an accomplished duelist, and decided that she wanted to be one professionally for her occupation. She still suffered from Stage Fright, and so would often get nervous and mess up when being watched while dueling, but she still tried her hardest to be a good duelist. Recently she was enrolled in the Dusk Wing Academy, where she hopes perhaps finally she can learn to come out of her shell when surrounded by people like herself.
